8.09.2026(주일) 환난을 이기는 자! (욥 42:8)자!
1. 욥에게 설명이 안되는 환난이 찾아왔다. 하나님은 사람을 정직하게 지으셨으나 사람은 많은 꾀를 냈다고 전도서 7:29은 말씀합니다. 그런데 욥은 정직하고 하나님을 경외하며 악에서 떠난 사람이었습니다 (욥 1:1). 그런 사람에게 말이 안되는 환난이 몰아 닥쳤습니다.
일곱 아들과 세 딸을 한 날에 잃었고 전재산과 건강을 잃었으며 아내도 떠나버렸습니다. 갑자기 닥친 이 무서운 환난과 고통은 30년이나 지속되었지요. 욥은 ‘왜’ 하나님을 경외하는 자에게 이런 환난이 왔는지 이해할 수 없었습니다.
사랑하는 여러분, 하나님을 믿는 우리에게도 오늘 이런 환난을 만난다면 하나님께 대한 믿음, 소망, 사랑을 유지할 수 있을까요? 그러나 욥은 하나님을 원망하거나 저주하지 않았습니다. 그는 환난의 원인을 하나님께 돌리지 않고 오히려 찬양했습니다.
2. 욥은 환난을 찬양과 저주로 맞이했다. (1) 이해할 수 없었어도 하나님을 찬양했다. “내가 모태에서 적신이 나왔사온즉 또한 적신이 그리로 돌아가올찌라 주신 자도 취하신 자도 여호와시오니 여호와의 이름이 찬송을 받으실찌니이다” (욥 1:21).
(2) 이해할 수 없었기 때문에 자기 자신을 저주했다. 환난 속에 있는 욥에게는 삶의 의미가 없었습니다. 그래서 욥은 자신의 생일을 저주했습니다. “자기의 생일을 저주하니라 그 날이 캄캄하였더라면, 하나님이 위에서 돌아보지 마셨더라면, 빛도 그 날을 비취지 말았었더라면” (욥 3:1,3).
3. 욥은 환난 속에서 자신을 보게 되었다. (1) 욥은 ‘믿는 자’의 환난을 풀 수 없었다. 욥은 악인의 환난은 이해했으나 의인의 환난은 이해되지 않았습니다. (2) 욥은 환난 속에서 자신을 보게 되었다. 환난 속에서 그는 환난보다 크신 하나님을 보게 되었고, 자신의 자리를 알게 된 것입니다.
환난을 통해, ‘하나님을 경외하는 것이 사람의 본분’이라는 비밀을 알게 된 거에요 (전 12:13). 환난 중에 있는 욥은 전능자 앞에 있는 자신을 보게 된 것입니다. 말이 안되는 극심한 환난을 만났지만 하나님을 사랑하는 것이 자기의 삶의 질이나 처지, 상황에 달려있지 않다는 것을 깨우쳤습니다.
가난해도, 아파도, 모든 것이 잘못되어도 하나님에 대한 사랑은 변할 수 없다는 것을 깨달은 거에요! 아픔과 고난의 이유를 하나님께 묻는 가운데 어느 순간 하나의 깨달음을 얻은 것이죠. 그분의 연단하심으로 자신이 정결해지고 사람의 본분이 회복될 것을 확신한 거에요 (욥 23:10).
4. 고난을 통해서 하나님을 깨닫게 되었다. (1) 환난가운데 함께 계시는 하나님을 발견했다. 그는 자신의 무지와 한계를 인정했습니다 (욥 42:2-3). (2) 욥은 신의 성품을 깨닫고 회개했다. 욥은 고난의 이유를 깨달은 것이 아니라 고난 중에 있는 자와 함께 하시는 하나님을 보게 된 거에요!
“주께 대하여 귀로 듣기만 하였삽더니 이제는 눈으로 주를 뵈옵나이다 그러므로 내가 스스로 한하고 티끌과 재 가운데서 회개하나이다” (욥 42:5,6). 그는 하나님에 대해 들었으나, 고통을 통해 하나님의 자비와 사랑을 체험적으로 느끼며 자신의 이제껏 믿어왔던 모습을 회개하였습니다.
사랑하는 여러분, 욥은 하나님이 사랑하는 자 곧 그 뜻대로 부르심을 입은 자이고 우리 역시도 하나님의 사랑 가운데 그 뜻대로 부르심을 입은 자들입니다. 아버지의 부르심과 택하심을 입은 자들에게는 모든 것이 합력하여 선을 이룹니다 (롬 8:28).
(3) 선을 이루는 데에는 고난도 있다. “모든 것이 합력하여 선을 이룬다” 말씀에서 그 모든 것에는 우리의 아픔, 환난도 포함돼 있습니다. 믿는 자에게 환난의 결국은 선의 완성입니다! 우리가 열방을 살리기 앞서 고난을 앎으로 은혜를 경험하고, 그 분을 앎으로 제사장이 되는 줄 믿습니다.
5. 환난을 이기는 자가 환난 중에 있는 자를 위로한다! 누가 고난을 아느냐? 고난을 경험하면서 이긴 자가 고난을 아는 것입니다. 예수님도 고난을 통해서 순종을 배우시고 온전하게 되사 대제사장이 되셨잖아요 (히 5:8-10)? 고난과 시련을 맛보지 않고서는 새노래를 부를 수 없는 거에요!
(1) 너희를 위하여 번제를 드리라! 하나님은 욥을 정죄했던 세 친구에게 노하셨습니다. “내 종 욥에게 가서 너희를 위하여 번제를 드리라” 이것은 욥에게 제사를 드리라는 것이 아니라 욥에게 자신들을 대신하여 제사를 드려달라고 부탁하라는 말씀입니다.
(2) 욥을 왕 같은 제사장으로 세우는 순간이다. 세 친구들은 왜 욥을 자기들의 중보자로 모셔야 할까요? 그들은 선악의 비밀을 알지 못하는 가운데 하나님의 구속에 대해서 잘못 깨달았기 때문입니다. 그들은 하나님의 속성, 인격을 헤아리지 못했기에 하나님에 대해서 잘못 증거한 것입니다.
“여호와께서 욥에게 이 말씀을 하신 후에 데만 사람 엘리바스에게 이르시되 내가 너와 네 두 친구에게 노하나니 이는 너희가 나를 가리켜 말한 것이 내 종 욥의 말 같이 정당하지 못함이니라” (욥 42:7). 욥의 세 친구의 죄는 고난당하는 자를 부당하게 정죄하고 위로를 하지 못한 것입니다.
6. 구속 교훈 (1) 정죄와 위로의 실패 그들은 욥보다 의롭지 못하면서 욥을 정죄했고, 환난 중에 있는 자를 위로하는 데에 실패했습니다. 그들은 “고난은 죄의 결과다”라는 좁은 생각에 갇혀 욥이 숨은 죄를 지었다고 단정하며 상처를 준 것입니다.
욥을 율법에 가두어 정죄하고, 하나님의 놀라우신 긍휼하심과 구속하심을 제대로 드러내지 못한 것입니다. 환난 중에서 신음하는 욥을 공감하고 품어주지 못하고, 죄를 회개하라는 상투적인 논리로 비난한 것이 그들의 잘못이었습니다. 그들은 마치 바리새인, 종교지도자들 같이 한 것입니다.
(2) 하나님과의 씨름과 환난의 통과 욥은 무시무시한 환난 속에서도 하나님과 씨름하며 진실과 자비를 구했습니다. 그러다가 전능하신 하나님은 자기의 고난보다 훨씬 위대한 분임을 깨달았고 결국 하나님의 인도하심을 신뢰하며 자신을 맡겼습니다.
사랑하는 여러분, 환난을 통과한 욥은 환난을 이기는 자의 모형입니다. 욥은 환난후 잃어버린 열자녀를 다시 얻고 모든 것의 갑절을 받아 평강을 누리는 자가 된 것입니다! 욥은 환난 가운데 있는 자를 위로 할 수 있는 비밀을 가진 자가 되었고 그것이 바로 왕 같은 제사장입니다 (벧전 2:9).
제사장은 중보자로서 하나님과 사람의 관계를 회복하는 역할을 합니다. 욥의 친구들은 남을 정죄하는 율법자 밖에 안 됐습니다. 그래서 그들에게는 중보자가 필요했던 것입니다. 하나님이 얼마나 선하시고 은혜로우신지 그들은 깨닫지 못했으나 욥은 마침내 하나님의 구원을 드러냈습니다.
사랑하는 여러분, 우리가 지금까지 받은 판단이나 정죄나 고난이나 은혜나 축복은 과연 헛되지 않았습니다. 왜냐하면 그 모든 것이 합력해서 선을 이루어 오늘의 우리를 낳았기 때문입니다. 그래서 우리는 왕 같은 제사장입니다! 환난 가운데에 있는 열방을 살리는 영으로 살리는 것입니다!
8.02.2026(Sunday) God Doesn’t Forget Those Who Have Labored! (Ex 17:8-13)
1. Miracles Happen Where There Is Preparation! (1) Every little bit helps There is a phrase called ‘every little bit helps.’ It means ten spoonfuls of rice make one bowl. This signifies multiple people joining forces to help one person.
(2) Baekdusan PC-701 There is a warship in South Korea that came about through the mindset of ‘every little bit helps.’ In the 1950s, Korea was one of the poorest nations in the world and the per capita national income was $65, and an officer’s monthly salary was $10 or less. Despite this, officers contributed 10% of their salary, and their wives raised money through sewing and bazaars.
Additionally, the enlisted personnel collected scrap metal and within 6 months raised $15,000, and the president sent an additional $45,000, allowing South Korea to purchase its first warship, the Baekdusan (PC-701). However, during the 6.25 Korean War, the Baekdusan identified and defeated an armed enemy ship that was carrying North Korean special forces and Soviet advisors that were attempting to enter the area near Busan, near Korea’s east coast.
If the Baekdusan had not been there, the Port of Busan would have been captured by North Korean forces, there would have been no foothold for a counterattack, and the arrival of the UN troops and military supplies would not have been possible. Therefore, the ‘Baekdusan’ became one of the miracles of the 6.25 Korean War.
2. God Performs Miracles Through Those Who Labor! (1) The war did not hinge on military might. “The Amalekites came and attacked the Israelites at Rephidim. Moses said to Joshua, ‘Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands’” (Ex 17:8-9).
(2) Moses’ arms were the deciding factor. After two months had passed since the Exodus, Israel was in battle against the Amalekites, and interestingly, whenever Moses raised his hands, the Israelites would win, but whenever they were lowered, the Amalekites won. (3) ‘Aaron’ and ‘Hur’ kept Moses’ arms from dropping. For the sake of victory, Aaron and Hur stepped forward.
They seated Moses on a stone, and they each held up his arms towards the sky from both sides until the sun went down. As a result, the Israelites defeated the Amalekites, and Aaron and Hur became key in securing the victory. They did not give up on Moses’ arms and gave their ‘entire heart and strength’ to raise them up!
3. The Father Does Not Forget Those Who Work Hard! The war against the Amalekites was a one-day war, but this war gave rise to two great leaders. God did not forget the ‘selfless’ sacrifice of Aaron and Hur. He illuminated the household of Aaron and Hur by giving them ‘Bezalel’ and ‘Phineas.’
It is not easy to continuously raise and keep up someone’s arms. God remembered their dedication and sacrifice for the Lord, and granted them with the next generation of workers who would work for the kingdom of God. Although their sacrifice was for just a day, it was filled with faith, hope, and love for the kingdom of God.
(1) ‘Bezalel’ was the grandson of Hur. “Hur was the father of Uri, and Uri the father of Bezalel” (1 Ch 2:20). He called Bezalel and filled him with the ‘Spirit of God,’ giving him wisdom and understanding to work. “And he has filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills” (Ex 35:31).
With the spirit of God, what kind of work was he tasked to carry out? In the early days of the wilderness journey, Bezalel was the one who built the Tabernacle. All of the sacred furnishings in the Holy Place, the Most Holy Place, and the courtyard of the Tabernacle were made by Bezalel’s hands. “Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, made everything the Lord commanded Moses” (Ex 38:22).
(2) ‘Phineas’ was Aaron’s grandson. “These were the descendants of Aaron: Eleazar his son, Phinehas his son, Abishua his son” (1 Ch 6:50). Phineas was someone who saved the Israelites from destruction at the end of the wilderness journey. He stopped God’s anger and kept Israel from being destroyed.
“But Phinehas stood up and intervened, and the plague was checked” (Ps 106:30). When the Moabite and Midianite women seduced the Israelite men, putting God’s covenant at risk of being broken, Phineas, driven by zeal and jealousy for God, brought an end to God’s wrath and plague.
“Phinehas son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, the priest, has turned my anger away from the Israelites. Since he was as zealous for my honor among them as I am, I did not put an end to them in my zeal” (Nu 25:11). God did not forget Aaron and Hur’s sacrifice, and used Bezalel and Phineas.
Redemptive Lesson The tabernacle that Bezalel built was possible by the ‘Spirit of God,’ and the work of Phineas saving Israel was also possible by the ‘Spirit of God.’ Bezalel was faithful in building the tabernacle at the beginning of the wilderness journey, and Phineas was faithful towards the end of the journey, so that the people would not be destroyed.
Isn’t it amazing? This is a lesson that the wilderness journey began and ended with the ‘same spirit.’ The Bible reveals the work of the same Spirit through ‘the genealogy of those who labor and remain faithful.’ At the appropriate time, God worked through the faithfulness of those with the spirit of God.
The ‘Spirit of the First Coming’ and the ‘Spirit of the Second Coming’ are the same. They are not different people. Jesus is the one who died for our sins and who, in the last days, gives us eternal life and makes us perfect. He is the same person. However the glory of the ‘times’ is different. The Spirit of the Father came upon the One who ascended – who is the One who descended!
